Day by day itinerary

  • Depart Nairobi by road for Tsavo West (4.5 hours), a vast park covering over 7,000 sq. km. The park features woodland, savannah, and riverine habitats and is home to thousands of elephants, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, crocodiles, and more than 600 bird species.

Upon entering the park, you’ll head to the stunning Serena Kilaguni Lodge in time for lunch. Located between Mount Kilimanjaro and the volcanic Chyulu Hills, this stone-built safari lodge offers excellent views of the surrounding hills. It overlooks its own waterhole, frequently visited by elephants, buffalo, and various plains animals. It was one of the first lodges built inside a national park in Kenya and features a restaurant, lounge and bar, all overlooking the waterhole. The lodge also has a swimming pool, sun deck, gift shop, and a variety of room options, all either overlooking the waterhole or with views of the Chyulu Hills.

After lunch, you'll embark on a late afternoon game drive, which includes a visit to Mzima Springs, where you may see hippos, Nile crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. You’ll then return to Kilaguni for dinner, spending the evening relaxing and observing wildlife arrive at the waterhole. The following day will be spent on morning and afternoon game drives exploring the park, with lunch and dinner at the lodge.

  • After breakfast, you will travel to Amboseli, a journey of about two hours through wilderness, including a stop at the Shetani lava flows, a vast expanse of black, folded lava. Amboseli is a stunning park offering excellent views of Mount Kilimanjaro and is among the top destinations in Africa to see large herds of elephants up close. The park features various habitats, from savannahs and woodlands to swamps and wetlands, with the western side dominated by a lake that often dries up during the dry season. This diversity makes Amboseli home to over 600 bird species, big cats, and many other mammals, including all the Big Five. You will arrive in time for lunch at Tulia Safari Camp, set in a small conservancy adjacent to Amboseli. The camp has just twenty en-suite tents, all with views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

As well as game drives in the main park you can also enjoy guided bush walks in the conservancy, sundowners and there is also a spa tent in the camp for ultimate relaxation. After lunch you’ll head out onto the plains of Amboseli for a late afternoon game drive to explore the park. The following day will be spent on morning and afternoon game drives, with all meals taken at the lodge.

  • After an early breakfast, you’ll depart Amboseli for the Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha (1.5 hours), a freshwater lake surrounded by swamp that is home to hippos, waterbuck, and many bird species. You’ll be staying at the Sopa Resort, located near the lakeshore, with beautiful gardens where wildlife such as bushbuck, zebra, and giraffe are often seen wandering. The lodge has a restaurant as well as a comfortable lounge and bar area with leather sofas and fireplaces for cool Naivasha evenings. The rooms are spacious, Swahili-style chalets with either a balcony or a glass-fronted lounge area for relaxing and wildlife viewing.

You’ll arrive in time for a late lunch and then spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Next morning, you’ll go on a boat safari across the lake, where you may spot hippos and various bird species including fish eagles and pelicans. You'll also visit Crescent Island for a guided nature walk, where you can observe many different plains mammals. At the end of the day, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and spend the rest of the evening watching the hippos come up from the lake graze.

  • After breakfast, you will depart Naivasha for Lake Nakuru (2 hours), where you may see over 400 different bird species, large populations of white rhinos, the rare Rothschild giraffe, and other plains mammals such as lions, zebras, and buffalo. Upon arriving at the park, you’ll proceed to your accommodation at Sopa Lodge, which is located at the top of a ridge and offers stunning views of the park and lake. The lodge features a restaurant, a separate bar and lounge, a swimming pool, and a small shop. All the rooms are very spacious and provide excellent views of the park and lake.

After lunch, you can relax and enjoy the scenery before embarking on a game drive around the lake. At sunset, you'll return to the lodge for dinner and an evening of relaxation relaxing. The next day will be spent on game drives with all meals at the lodge.

  • After an early breakfast, you’ll leave Nakuru for the open grasslands of the Masai Mara (5 hours). Rich in biodiversity and home to a wide variety of bird species and wildlife, this savannah reserve offers excellent game viewing and bird watching opportunities.

The Masai Mara is considered the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife reserves and hosts the annual wildebeest migration, which involves over 1.5 million animals! There have been 95 species of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles, and over 400 bird species recorded within the reserve. No other place in Africa has more abundant wildlife, and visitors will rarely miss the chance to see the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino). You will arrive in time for lunch at Ilkeliani, an authentic, quiet and relaxed camp, locasted on the Talek river with a strong emphasis on personalised service. The camp has a small number of spacious, canvas tents on raised platforms, all with private verandas, en‑suite bathrooms, and views over the river or savannah.

After lunch, you’ll head out on a game drive, and the next two days will be spent exploring the savannah grasslands of the Masai Mara, tracking down the Big Five along with many other species of mammals, reptiles, and birds.

  • After breakfast, you’ll head back to Nairobi (5.5 hours), stopping for lunch along the way.
