Day by day itinerary

  • Depart Nairobi for Amboseli, a fantastic park about a 5-hour drive away, offering stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s one of the best places in Africa to see large herds of elephants up close! Amboseli features a variety of habitats, including savannahs, woodlands, swamps, and wetlands. The western part of the park is dominated by a lake that often dries up during the dry season, contributing to the diversity that makes Amboseli home to over 600 bird species, big cats, and many other mammals, including all the Big Five.

You will arrive in time for lunch at Kibo Tented Camp, located just outside the park. Each spacious en-suite tent features a comfy bed, a stone floor, canvas walls, and tasteful decor. The camp offers a large dining area where meals are served buffet-style, a bar, a swimming pool to cool off, and a small art gallery and souvenir shop. After lunch, you will head out onto the plains of Amboseli for a late afternoon game drive to explore the park. The following day will include morning and afternoon game drives, with all meals served at camp.

  • After an early breakfast, you’ll depart for Lake Naivasha and the Sopa Resort (6 hours), arriving in time for a late lunch. The lodge is located near the lake shore and features beautiful gardens where wildlife such as bushbuck, zebra, and giraffe often roam. It offers a restaurant, along with a very comfortable lounge and bar area furnished with leather sofas and fireplaces to warm the cool Naivasha evenings. The rooms are spacious, Swahili-style chalets, each with either a balcony or a glass-fronted lounge area perfect for relaxing and watching wildlife. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the gardens, enjoy dinner, and watch the hippos come up from the lake to graze on Sopa’s grounds.

The next morning, rise early and set out on a boat safari across the lake, where you may see hippos and a variety of bird species, including fish eagles and pelicans. Towards the end of your boat safari, you will stop at Crescent Island for a guided nature walk. Late morning, you will head to Lake Nakuru (1.5 hours), arriving in time for lunch.

  • Lake Nakuru is a soda lake where you can see over 400 different bird species, including large numbers of pelicans and sometimes flamingos. Nakuru is an excellent place to get close to white rhinos, and you can also see the rare Rothschild giraffe here, which can be recognised by its white lower legs that resemble long socks. Many other plains mammals are found here; 56 species have been identified in the park, including zebra, buffalo, waterbuck, and lions.

Upon entering the park, you will enjoy a short game drive en route to your accommodation at Sopa Lodge, situated on a ridge with stunning views over the park and lake. The lodge features a restaurant, a separate bar and lounge, a pool, a small shop, and all the rooms are very spacious with excellent vistas. After lunch, enjoy a game drive to explore the park and lake shore. At sunset, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an evening of relaxation while appreciating the views. The next day will be dedicated to morning and afternoon game drives, with all meals provided at the lodge

  • After an early breakfast, you’ll head to the open grassland of the Masai Mara (5 hours). Rich in biodiversity and home to a wide variety of bird and wildlife species, this savannah reserve offers excellent game-viewing and birdwatching opportunities.

The Masai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife reserves and hosts the annual wildebeest migration, involving over 1.5 million animals! The reserve has recorded 95 species of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles, as well as over 400 bird species. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant, and visitors will rarely miss the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino).

You’ll arrive in time for lunch at the Mara River Camp, a bush camp located on the Mara River at the foot of the Oloololo escarpment. The camp is set in large grounds and features a bar, lounge, dining area, and a pool to cool off.

After lunch, you’ll go out for a game drive, and the following day will be spent exploring the savannah grasslands on game drives, tracking down the Big Five along with many other species of mammals, reptiles, and birds

  • After breakfast, you will return to Nairobi by road, stopping for lunch along the way. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be dropped off at your preferred location.
