Day by day itinerary

  • Your first day in Kenya will be a pleasant, relaxed one spent sightseeing in Nairobi; the first stop will be the Giraffe Centre to meet and feed the giraffes. The centre is part of a breeding programme for the now-rare Rothschild giraffe, which can be found in small numbers in the wild.

After meeting the giraffes, you will be taken to the Karen Blixen Coffee House for lunch, located in a historic building originally built in 1906. This will be followed by a short visit to the Karen Blixen Museum, which was once the centre of a 4,500-acre farm owned by author Karen Blixen and her Swedish husband, made famous by the 1985 film ‘Out of Africa’, based on Karen’s autobiographical book of the same name published in 1937.

Finally, you’ll visit the Kazuri Beads workshop to see the local artisans at work. At the end of the day, you’ll head to camp for the night, which offers a selection of cottages and luxury tents, a swimming pool, a games room, and a very good souvenir shop with locally made items, all set in a picturesque setting with plenty of trees and birdlife.

  • After an early breakfast, you’ll depart Nairobi for Tsavo East (6 hours), a plateau of open grassland dotted with giant baobab trees. It is the largest protected area in Kenya, covering over 13,500 sq km. You'll gain a true sense of the wilderness in this expansive park, which is home to many of the larger mammals and over 500 recorded bird species! The park is one of Kenya’s most biodiverse regions, featuring bushy grasslands, open plains, semi-arid acacia scrub, woodlands, and riverine habitats. You’ll also visit Lugards Falls, a set of rapids on the Galana River, and Mudanda Rock, a large, prominent tower-like formation that attracts elephants and other wildlife, including leopards.

You’ll arrive in time for lunch at Satao Camp, renowned for its unique setting overlooking a watering hole that draws numerous animals for their daily drink and offers excellent opportunities to see large herds of elephants. After lunch, you’ll have some free time to relax and refresh yourself in your spacious en suite tent before setting out on an afternoon game drive. You will return to camp at sunset for a sundowner and dinner. The following day will be spent on game drives exploring this rich biodiversity stronghold.

  • After breakfast, you’ll depart Tsavo East for the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a very scenic area teeming with wildlife. There are over fifty species of large mammals and three hundred species of birds here, and it’s common to spot two dozen species during a morning game drive. You may see lions, cheetahs, large herds of elephants and buffalo, and many other fascinating species.

You’ll arrive in time for lunch at  Salt Lick Lodge, an unusual game-viewing lodge built on stilts overlooking a water source that attracts abundant wildlife, viewable from the comfort of the lodge, your room, or the excellent ground-level hide. Later, your guide will take you on a game drive through this very scenic park, which covers over 28,000 acres of protected area.

At the end of the day, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and an evening watching the wildlife at the watering hole

  • After breakfast, you’ll continue your safari to Tsavo West, where you’ll be staying at the stunning Serena Kilaguni Safari Lodge, situated inside the park. It is a game-viewing lodge overlooking a watering hole that often attracts elephants and many other plains mammals. Each room is en-suite with a balcony, either overlooking the rolling hills or the watering hole. The lodge has a pool, small shop, restaurant, and bar, and there is also a spa if you fancy a massage after your game drives.

You’ll arrive in time for lunch, then be taken on a late afternoon game drive and a visit to the Mzima Springs, where you may see hippos, Nile crocodiles, and many different bird species. You’ll return to Kilaguni for dinner and spend your evening relaxing and watching the wildlife arrive at the watering hole, overlooked by the lodge’s restaurant. The next day will be spent on morning and afternoon game drives exploring the park, with all meals at the lodge

  • Depart Tsavo for Amboseli, a remarkable park offering stunning views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and one of Africa’s best places to see large herds of elephants! The drive to Amboseli takes about 2 hours and mostly passes through wilderness, with a stop at the Shetani lava flows along the way. Amboseli features diverse habitats, from savannahs and woodlands to swamps and wetlands, with the western side dominated by a lake that often dries up during the dry season. This rich environment makes Amboseli home to over 600 bird species, big cats, and many other mammals, including all the Big Five!

You’ll arrive in time for lunch at Elerai Camp, set within a 5,000-acre private conservation area adjacent to the park. The camp consists of just 17 tents and cottages, and offers a cosy lounge and bar area, restaurant, swimming pool, and views of a watering hole. Each tent has its own ensuite bathroom with a spacious shower and views of the mountain, which can be enjoyed from the large wooden veranda equipped with day beds. You can enjoy bush walks and night game drives within the conservancy, and you’ll also venture into Amboseli park for early morning and late afternoon game drives

  • After breakfast, you will return to Nairobi by road, stopping for lunch along the way. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be dropped off at your preferred location.
