Day by day itinerary

  • Depart Nairobi for the Premium Lake Nakuru (3 hours), where you can see over 400 different species of birds, including large numbers of pelicans and sometimes flamingoes. Nakuru is an excellent place to see white rhino up close, and you can also spot the rare Rothschild giraffe here, identifiable by its white lower legs that resemble long socks! Many other plains mammals are found here; 56 species have been recorded in the park, including zebra, buffalo, waterbuck, and lions.

Upon entering the park, you will enjoy a short game drive en route to your accommodation at Sopa Lodge, which is perched a the top of a ridge with stunning views over the park and lake. The lodge features a restaurant, separate bar and lounge, pool, small shop, and all the rooms are very spacious with great views.

After lunch, you can relax for a while before heading out on a late afternoon game drive to explore the park and lake shore. At sunset, you will return to the lodge for dinner and an evening of relaxation.

The next day will be spent on game drives exploring the lake shore and forest areas of the park, with all meals at the lodge

  • After breakfast, you’ll head down the Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha and the Sopa Resort (1.5 hours), where you’ll arrive well before lunch. The lodge is situated near the lake shore, surrounded by beautiful gardens, and wildlife such as bushbuck, zebra, and giraffe often roam around. The lodge features a restaurant, a comfortable lounge, and a bar with leather sofas and fireplaces to enjoy the cool Naivasha evenings. The rooms are spacious, set in Swahili-style chalets, either with a balcony or a glass-fronted lounge area for relaxing and observing wildlife.

After lunch, you’ll go on a boat trip across the lake, where you might see hippos and various bird species including fish eagles and pelicans. Towards the end of the boat trip, you'll stop at Crescent Island for a guided bush walk, where you can get up close to plains mammals like giraffe and wildebeest. After the walk, you’ll return to the lodge for the evening, enjoy dinner, and watch the hippos come out of the lake to graze.

  • After an early breakfast, you’ll depart from Naivasha and head to the open grassland of the Maasai Mara (5 hours). Rich in biodiversity and home to a wide variety of bird species and wildlife, this savannah reserve provides excellent game viewing and bird watching opportunities.

The Maasai Mara is considered the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife reserves and hosts the annual wildebeest migration, involving over 1.5 million animals! The reserve has recorded 95 species of mammals, amphibians, and reptiles, as well as over 400 bird species. No other place in Africa boasts such abundant wildlife, and visitors rarely miss seeing the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino).

You will arrive in time for lunch at the Sarova Mara Game Camp, located within the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It is a quality tented camp with good facilities and a variety of tent options. The dining is of a high standard, and there are several other activities available, such as fishing and bush walking.

The next two days will be dedicated to exploring the savannah grasslands of the Maasai Mara on game drives to track the Big Five, along with many other species of mammals, reptiles, and birds.

  • After breakfast, you will travel back to Nairobi by road, stopping for lunch en route. Upon arrival in Nairobi, you’ll be dropped off at your preferred location.
