Day by day itinerary
-
Depart from Nairobi to Lake Naivasha and the Sopa Resort (1.5 hours). The lodge is situated by the lake and boasts beautiful grounds with large cacti and numerous acacia trees, where wildlife such as bushbuck, zebra, and giraffe often wander. The main building features an interior garden, fireplaces, and comfortable leather sofas. The rooms are spacious, Swahili-style chalets, each with either a balcony or a glass-fronted lounge area for relaxing and wildlife viewing.
After lunch, you’ll take a boat safari across the lake, where you may see hippos and various bird species, including fish eagles and pelicans. Towards the end of the boat safari, you'll stop at Crescent Island for a guided nature walk. You will then return to the lodge for the evening, where you can enjoy dinner and observe hippos coming up from the lake to graze in Sopa’s grounds
-
After breakfast, depart Naivasha for Lake Nakuru (1.5 hours), where you can see over 400 different bird species, including large numbers of pelicans and occasionally flamingos. Nakuru is an excellent place to get close to white rhinos, and you can also see the rare Rothschild giraffe here, identifiable by its white lower legs that resemble long socks. The park is home to many other plains mammals, with 56 species recorded, including zebra, buffalo, waterbuck, and lions.
Upon entering the park, you will enjoy a short game drive en route to your accommodation at Sopa Lodge, which is situated at the top of a ridge and offers stunning views over the park and lake. The lodge features a restaurant, a separate bar and lounge, a pool, a small shop, and all the rooms are very spacious with great vistas.
After lunch, you can relax for a while before heading out on a late afternoon game drive to explore the park and lakeshore. At sunset, you will return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening.
The following day will be spent on game drives exploring the park’s lakeshore and forest areas, with all meals provided at the lodge.
-
After breakfast, you’ll depart Nakuru and continue your safari to Laikipia (2 hours) and the Ol Pejeta conservancy, which has the highest density of resident large mammals in Kenya, including unusual species such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, and Lelwel hartebeest.
The conservancy undertakes important work to conserve wildlife and generate income through wildlife tourism, reinvesting in conservation projects and local communities.
You’ll spend two nights at the luxury Sweetwaters Tented Camp, located within the conservancy and offering stunning views of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The camp features extensive grounds, a watering hole, and a night-viewing bar. You will head out on early morning and late afternoon game drives, participate in lion tracking, and gather research data to monitor the collared lions.
When not on game drives or lion tracking, you can relax at camp and enjoy watching the wildlife at the camp’s watering hole!
-
After breakfast and an early morning game drive, you'll head back to Nairobi by road (3.5 hours), where you'll be dropped at your preferred location.
